The EZ-ECL Kit from Biological Industries is a chemiluminescence-based detection kit for HRP-coupled macromolecules such as antigen-antibody conjugates. The optimized composition of the ready-to-use reagents enables an improved chemiluminescence reaction of immobilized proteins in Western blotting or immobilized nucleic acids in Southern or Northern blotting. The prerequisite is that the proteins and nucleic acids are directly or indirectly linked to the enzyme Horse Radish Peroxidase (HRP, horseradish peroxidase). In the presence of hydrogen peroxide, HRP catalyzes the oxidation of luminol, which is thereby briefly converted to an excited state. During the subsequent decay of the excited luminol to its ground state, energy is released in the form of light emission. The released light is then amplified in intensity by so-called enhancers (e.g. phenolic compounds).
